OBIETTIVI FORMATIVI:

Al termine del 1° anno di corso lo studente deve:

Ø  acquisire, comprendere ed analizzare le strutture grammaticali della lingua Inglese per sviluppare una buona conoscenza della sintassi e del lessico;

Ø  conoscere la terminologia tecnica e medico-scientifica riguardante la professione;

Ø  leggere e tradurre dall’inglese un semplice testo di carattere medico-scientifico.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the 1° year of the three year English course the student is expected to:

Ø  acquire, interpret and analyze basic grammatical structures of the English language in order to develop a satisfactory understanding of the lexical, syntactic and morphological components;

Ø  understand technical and medical-scientific terminology regarding mental health;

Ø  read and translate from English into Italian a simple medical scientific text.

Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione

Al termine del 1° anno lo studente dovrà essere in grado di:

• conoscere e comprendere le regole grammaticali di base;
• conoscere e comprendere il lessico medico scientifico di base;
• saper leggere e comprendere semplice brani di lettura.

Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione

Al termine del 1° anno lo studente dovrà essere in grado di:

• applicare le sue conoscenze leggendo e traducendo dall'inglese semplici testi scientifici;
• dimostrare di comprendere i testi rispondendo alle domande;
• spiegare con parole proprie il funzionamento di un apparato, malattia, tecnica e/o procedura.

 Autonomia di giudizio

Al termine del 1° anno lo studente dovrà essere in grado di:

• interpretare in modo autonomo i dati ritenuti utili nel campo linguistico e comunicativo.

 Comunicazione

Al termine del 1° anno lo studente dovrà essere in grado di:

• comunicare informazioni in lingua inglese a specialisti e non specialisti del settore.

 Capacità di apprendimento

Al termine del 1° anno lo studente dovrà essere in grado di:

• aver sviluppato capacità di apprendimento che consente di poter proseguire gli studi che può essere in gran parte auto-diretto o autonomo.

Knowledge and understanding

At the end of the first year the student must be able to:

• know and understand the basic grammar rules;

• know and understand the medical-scientific vocabulary;
• read and understand simple reading and comprehension passages.

Applying knowledge and understanding

At the end of the first year the student must be able to:

• apply the knowledge learnt by reading and translating simple scientific texts from English;

• demonstrate understanding by answering questions;
• explain in one’s own words a body system, disease, technique and/or procedure.

Making judgments

At the end of the first year the student must be able to:

• have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data deemed useful in the field of linguistics and communication.

Communication skills

At the end of the first year the student must be able to:

• communicate in English to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Learning skills

At the end of the first year the student must be able to:

• have developed the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner which may be largely self-directed or autonomous.

PROGRAMMA:

Durante il corso si tratteranno i seguenti argomenti:

Ø  grammatica di base della lingua inglese, con particolare attenzione alle forme usate più frequentemente nella letteratura scientifica;

Ø  funzioni linguistiche principali;

Ø  funzioni linguistiche orientate a tematiche sanitarie ed assistenziali;

Ø  lessico specifico dell’ambiente medico-assistenziale e psichiatrico.

COURSE SYLLABUS:

The following topics will be dealt with during the course:

Ø  basic grammar of the English language, focusing on the most common forms used in medical English;

Ø  main linguistic functions;

Ø  linguistic functions focusing on general health care topics and psychiatric topics;

Ø  very specific medical and psychiatric terminology.

MODALITÀ DI INSEGNAMENTO:

L’insegnamento si articola in un modulo che prevede 12 ore di lezione di didattica frontale (1 CFU). Durante il corso verranno adottate le seguenti forme didattiche:

• Insegnamento frontale orientato alla didattica interattiva.
• Comprensione di lettura con esercizi inerente la comprensione inoltre ad esercizi di grammatica,
• traduzioni ed analisi di testi con esercizi di domande vero/falso,
• gap fills
• domande aperte.

COURSE STRUCTURE:

The teaching module will consist of 12 hours of formal in-class lecture time (1 credit). 

The following teaching methods will be adopted:

• Frontal and formal interactive teaching by means of reading and comprehensions,
• translations and analyses of medical texts with true/false questions,
• gap fills,
• grammar exercises,
• multiple choice questions,
• Use of English
• open questions.

MODALITÀ DI VERIFICA DELL'APPRENDIMENTO:

La prova scritta consiste in:

Ø  Domande Vero/Falso inerenti il programma;

Ø  Esercizi di Grammatica;

Ø  Gap fill e Use of English;

Ø  Domande a scelta multipla;

Ø  Test di Reading and Comprehension;

La prova orale consiste in:

Ø  Esposizione da parte dello studente di una patologia o esperienza di tirocinio.

Per il superamento dell’esame scritto bisogna ottenere il 70 percento in ogni sua parte diversamente non si potrà accedere alla prova orale.

VALUTAZIONE

Idoneità

Solo gli studenti che superano Inglese 1 possono sostenere inglese 2.

COURSE GRADE DETERMINATION:

The written test includes:

Ø  True/False questions based on the program;

Ø  Grammar Exercises;

Ø  Gap fill and Use of English;

Ø  Multiple Choice Questions;

Ø  Reading and Comprehension;

The oral test includes:

Ø  Discussion of a disease or training experience.

Students must achieve a minimum grade of 70 percent in each and every part of the written exam in order to take the oral exam.

 ASSESSMENT

Pass/Fail Grading

Only those students who satisfactorily pass 1^st year English may take 2^nd year English. 

ATTIVITÀ DI SUPPORTO:

Esercitazioni scritte ed orali con gli insegnanti dell’attività complementare. Ulteriori Comprensione di lettura e traduzione di testi scientifici con esercizi.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES:

Written and oral drills will be carried out by the assistants during the optional lessons. Further reading and comprehensions and translations of scientific medical texts.

Il libro di testo che si userà in classe è “PATHWAY 1 e 9 - NUOVA EDIZIONE 2018/2019  di L. Massari e M.J. Teriaca -; Casa Editrice Il Tipografo e Scienza Medica.
